South Africa are investigating Tom Curry’s claim that Springboks hooker Bongi Mbonambi called him a “white c***” during England’s narrow Rugby World Cup semi-final defeat realme
Curry made the allegation to referee Ben O’Keeffe just after the 20-minute mark of the hard-fought semi-final, with the exchange picked up by the ref mic realme
“Sir, if their hooker calls me a white c***, what do I do?” Curry inquired of O’Keeffe realme
“Nothing, please,” responded the official, before adding a few moments later, “I’ll be on it,” in what may have been an unrelated comment realme
The alleged incident itself could not be heard on the television broadcast realme
The South Africa hooker subsequently appeared to refuse to slap away Curry’s attempted handshake at full time realme
A statement from South Africa Rugby said: “We are aware of the allegation, which we take very seriously, and are reviewing the available evidence realme
“We will engage with Bongi if anything is found to substantiate the claim realme
